“Voedselbanken” celebrate 25th anniversary at Abattoir
On Monday, 24th September, our site welcomed quite a unique visitor. The Belgian “Voedselbanken” (food pantries) had chosen our cellars as location for celebrating their 25th anniversary. It was Her Majesty Princess Astrid herself who honoured us with her visit.
The day started at 9,00 hrs AM sharp with a press conference, after which the more than two hundred guests were invited to an academic session that was followed by a reception and a buffet lunch. This happening was honoured with the presence of her Royal Highness Prinses Astrid, representing the royal family. For many years already, the “voedselbanken” have been benefiting from royal support.
It was a day to be remembered for Mr Jean Delmelle, president, and his complete management team. All personnel involved in running the Belgian “voedselbanken” and representatives from “voedselbanken “ in other countries were present, as well as the lady-president of the European Federation.
It was a great honour for Abattoir s.a. to co-organize this event.. The reactions received were quite positive and after the official presentation, the Princess largely took her time to talk with the guests. The “voedselbanken”, located in the commune of Anderlecht, do an excellent job and were happy to see a considerable growth in the amount of food collected over the last year, which is in fact bad news because it demonstrates at the same time the growth of poverty in our country.
It is good to know too that a lot of companies take their responsibility and contribute to solving the social problem by offering concrete help to the “voedselbanken”. Abattoir was pleased to contibute to this beautiful event by offering for the occasion their event location at quite attractive conditions.
